About AQF
The Anwarul Quadir Foundation (AQF) is a 501(c)(3)
non-profit that promotes economic development and social justice
in Bangladesh by encouraging innovations that empower its citizens.
Specifically, the Foundation offers awards to innovators who conceive
of practical ways of improving the lives of low- and middle-income
Bangladeshis. In addition, it fosters discussions on Bangladesh
that may lead to relevant innovations in governance, commerce and
technology, contributing to the country’s social and economic progress.
More broadly, the solutions we identify may also be applicable to
problems faced by the poor in developing countries throughout the
world. All of our programs seek to set a positive and problem-solving
tone with regard to discussions involving Bangladesh, and other
poor countries experiencing similar development challenges.

About Anwarul Quadir
Anwarul
Quadir (1920-1972) was born in Narail, Bangladesh, and practiced
law in the neighboring town of Jessore from 1954 to 1972. He believed
deeply in a socially just and economically progressive country,
and in the power of ideas and individual initiatives to achieve
those ends. Ideas, innovations and initiatives that would improve
the lives of his fellow men and women were near and dear to his
heart.
His beliefs inspired his children, who emigrated to the United States
for higher education after his tragic death in 1972. The Anwarul
Quadir Foundation, established in his memory, was incorporated in
2004 by his children and their friends. Its goal is to promote new
ideas and innovations that will bring about the kind of social contributions
that he had envisioned for Bangladesh.

Our Approach
While the Foundation stimulates innovations through
awards, the Foundation does not participate in the process that
selects award recipients. The Foundation sets the criteria and enables
independent, reputable institutions to select the winners.
The Foundation, its board of trustees, its board of advisors or
members of the Quadir family have no influence in the award selection
process.
